Words seemed unnecessary on Oscar night. People everywhere raised their palms to applaud the best picture ‘Coda.’ Some looked up its meaning. It was one of the joyous and memorable moments from the night.
Before that, there was a 50th anniversary celebration, albeit muted, of the masterpiece ‘Godfather.’ Many of those who haven’t had a chance to see the movie yet must have decided to watch the movie to see what all the fuss is about. 50 years is a really long time! Robert De Niro seemed to have the secret sauce for aging well. He didn't have to say that aloud.
Before that, Chris Rock looked dapper. His clean-shaven face had a nice glow, which sadly was short-lived. Will Smith’s reaction to a bad joke on his wife—that has since traversed the globe—left an imprint on Rock’s cheek and the Oscar’s as well. The room full of creators, artists, and Hollywood high society stayed mum and even gave a standing ovation to Will Smith when he later won the best actor award. Actions spoke louder than words.
Before that, there were happy designers probably beaming at their creations from somewhere. Everyone was putting his, her or their best foot forward and hands in perfect pose. This was the golden platform to make it to the best-dressed list of every fashion magazine and morning show. Many dresses left people stunned, speechless. Do dressing and decorum go together?
Before that, all the hard work had been done, movies made, released or streamed and viewed. It was time to sit back, relax and enjoy the carefully-crafted award show. The last two years have robbed us of many simple joys of life. This will be different—mask-less and touching. Everything was going great!
